I seem to vaguely remember the Big Box object can do this, but I'm not certain. There's also the BEEP object, but it goes through the PC internal speaker.

The big box also outputs the tones thou the internal speaker...

It can however give you the frequencies of the common keys.

You 'could!' use a binary extension to write a wave file with the tones you want, then immediately play it.

    Re: tone generator

I was playing with the Big Box object's BEEP function, but it pauses the program every time a beep is played. I was trying to make a song.

Is there a way to fix this?

    Re: tone generator

Nothing comes to mind with that..

The other thing i was thinking about was using MIDI; Midi is a dynamic sized file ended by a META expression, that plus the fact that playing a midi file doesn't lock it-it may be possible to fool the midi output to play from a midi as the midi is being written... but that requires some pretty nifty binary object use.
