Java port of one of my first big games from 1999

    http://www.freakzone-games.com/freddie.html

I originally made this game in 1999. This version has been enhanced with a static platform engine and re-coded to remove all extensions, etc. and a lot of it has been re-done to be Java compatible.

I had to sacrifice some pretty background layers and things to keep the speed up in Java but I'm happy to do that. I get some flickering on my underpowered Windows Vista laptop but most of you should be able to run the game just fine.

Note: There's currently a glitch in the first boss where getting hurt doesn't subtract from your health for some reason. I'm trying to sort that out. Otherwise I'm happy with the port.

I say "port" since it wasn't simply building it in Java, it took me the most part of 3 days to re-do the platform engine (previously using Platform Movement Object since last year's revisit of the game) in every frame, replace all transparency effects with alpha channels, remove 3rd party extensions and use raw events to mimmick them, remove any events causing freezeups, etc.

Oh, and what do you think of the border so far?
