    I never tried that, but are sure it works ? It could work, but a negative distance seems weird anyway.

    I've often used negative distances like that. It sure works nicely.

    A Whole Game in 1 frame is completely possible, I do it all the time.

    In a game I have called Jill of the Jungle most of the levels are on shared maps.

    But a Knytt Stories approach would be the single best approach but you can still get center in on Player at all times & collisions n stuff outside of screen if you know how to do it properly.

    A Knytt Stories approach would involve you have a one dimensional array of coordinates (Your Map Data) which says 1st level data array is 1000x1000y and this means that your first array in (Your Level Data) is at those coordinates.

    Edit: Also knowing the difference between a Map, Level & Mission might help.
