    Color swap an animated counter?

You know how you can replace a color of an active object? Well I noticed you can replace colors of counters, but only if they are bars, or text style. So, when I have a counter that is an animation, I can not color swap it. So, is there a way around this to make an animated counter color swap?

Would I have to make like the same counters right on top of each other, setting it to the same value as the current counter, but invisible until I want them to change color? That's the only thing I can think of, since you can't color change animated counters, as far as I can tell.

Well that certainly sounds like a good workaround, but I can't think of any other way to actually do this directly. Good idea though.
