Adding videos from my camcorder to demo version

I am very new to working with computers so I don't know exactly what I need to ask for but here is my problem...

I am using the demo version of the MMF2 developer and I bought a video camera to try to put my own videos on my application I am trying to make.

My camera comes in a .mod file (which I think I successfully rename to Mpeg2). I was hoping for a simple solution... use mpeg object and run the Mpeg2 video but that didn't work.

I tried a lot of things (different converters and format changes) and finally got the video to play when I used a converter to change it to an .avi file, but only when I said my video output was original/uncompressed (whatever that means).

The problem is that the video is really jumpy. The only reason I can figure for this is that before converting, the .mod file was 18 Megabytes. After converting, the .avi file was 567 Megabytes.

Why so much larger? Is it because it is uncompressed? Did I somehow convert it wrong? Is it because it went from Mpeg2 to an .avi? Is there anything I can do to keep the smaller size? I have tried many different outputs for this converter but nothing else will even get the video to play. I have tried a few other converters with even less luck.

I contacted someone through Amazon and told them about the jumpyness but not the increased size or the details on how I converted it (I didn't know yet). He suggested converting the video to Windows Media Format and using Direct show to play it.

How do I convert to this Windows Media Format?

I apologize for the long message and appreciate any help at all.

    Try MediaCoder for conversions.

You should have Windows Movie Maker on your computer (if you have vista) Its an easy way to convert files to the WMV format.

A .mod file according to the interent is really a mpeg2 file.
If you can upload one someplace we can do some testing and see what video objects will play it.

Wow! you guys are quick. I actually accidentally figured out something that worked with this converter I am using and It seems to work great. If I find future problems, I will try those other things. Thank you so much.
