Download Object?

I cant find any tutorial at all on how to use the 'download object'... how does one make it work?

there's an action called "Download"

you click it

then enter the url you want to download
and where you want to download to

and then a slot from 1-4



... yeah its pretty straight forward

You can download 4 files at the same time, one file per slot.

dont forget "if" your your firewall asks for the app to access the internet to allow if you want to download from it.

common communication problem many encounter.


another thing I've experienced is when to download something a destination file name is needed as well (not just a directory).

You might use PHP for that.
Store your file version info on a PHP file, then upload it to your webserver, then use Live Receiver extension to retrieve info from that PHP file.

If you don't understand PHP, a basic TXT file could be used too

so is there no extension can do this yet? i know the Download object can "get file size" (without download).

a file version of a file that's unknown to me. (not my File)

useless downloading it to find out the file version
and i already have the same file on my PC.

the only thing i can do is compare the url file with the one ive got on PC to compare size to see if they are differant.
without going right out of my way.

There is no way of getting a file version, because file versions are usually specified in an arbitrary manner. For example it could be in the file name in various formats ( python.2.5.egg or python25setup.exe, both are Python 2.5 installation packages).

Some files have the meta tag that determines the version, but very few files have them.
