    ini help

    can someone help me out?
I have used the ini object to save some info in my game and i have used [color:#3366FF]Appdrive$+Appdir$+"mygame.ini"[/color] as the file name.
Problem is when I build the game it will not save any information and I dont know why?
( Im using Vista if that matters)

    Re: ini help

    apppath$+"mygame.ini"

What this does is save the INI into the folder where your game is saved.

    Re: ini help

I think that Vista may be preventing the creation of the file, particularly if it's in the Program Files folder. I think from memory that the commonly agreed on place to store saves on Vista is in the user's Application Data folder.

emmm...I am using Vista Basic, and never run into the problem saving and loading with apppath$ on any storage object. Did I miss something in this post? Must be my brain leakage then.

    Re: ini help

    Perhaps you don't use Vista?

The polite place to put files is in the the Documents and Settings folder thing (well some subfolder whose name I have forgotten). Ini++ has some properties to make this a bit easier.

I agree. Is your program in the Program Files folder? If so, that's the problem, you need to put it somewhere else.

    Re: ini help

    thanx for all the comments!
Although i may be using vista to make my game I do want the game to be played on other os systems too. So I gather the best way to do this is either apppath$+"mygame.ini" or perhaps in the Windows Dir.

    Re: ini help

Don't put the INI in the Windows folder. Use apppath$ to put it in the game folder.

    Re: ini help

I tried that but for some odd reason the game wont save to the file???? the only time it works is when i use the windows folder or any drive letter other than c:\ ( i have 3 available drives) eg: e:\mygame.ini
I know i'm doing it right I just dont know why it wont work!!!!
