    Joystick2.MFX not found?

I've been having a reoccuring issue on a small handful of computers that I can't seem to figure out at all. It works fine on my computer, and it works fine on the computers of quite a few other people, but there are also quite a few computers that seem to keep reporting this error.

Cannot load joystick2.mfx. This object might need an external program or library not yet installed.

This is whenever I try to run the compiled EXE, not in MMF2 itself. It's really confusing the hell out of me.

I think... from memory, it might be something to do with the .NET framework (or something similar) not being installed on the computers on which it doesn't work. Are they generally older - for example, are they all at least Service Pack 2 XP machines?

I think the Joystick2 object needs a specific version of a DirectX DLL to be installed on the user's machine, xinput1_3.dll. I *think* it's a DirectX 8 DLL. Try to install the latest version of DirectX to see if it solves the problem.

I can see going without the latest version of DirectX being a problem at say school, which is where I initially get the error, however the one main place I get the error that really confuses me, is on my friends computer. And he always keeps everything up to date, I think. I'll have to ask him though.

    Re: Joystick2.MFX not found?

I often get this problem and tell people to download at least DirectX9c (or later). The problem is that sometimes it doesn't add the dll if a newer version is detected. In that case, I have had to uninstall DirectX and then reinstall version 9c.

It would be awesome if the joystick2 extension could be compiled so this stuff was not required, since it is such an awesome extension. Does anyone know if this is just a case of the author needing to recompile the extension or is this a bigger issue?

FYI: I have updated the object to dynamically load XInput, just not released yet.
