When it comes to using mmf, I can only use the most basic functions. I see all the tutorials on the web page, but any that I try end up confusing the hell out of me. Is there any sort of tutorial where I should start?

Try visiting Marv's Website for a ton of examples that vary in difficulty. Also my website has some examples, as well.

I have a few on my website as well, how to make some very basic beginner level games, which also have advanced examples that build on each other, and I don't use any custom extensions aside from the Platform Movement Object in my examples.
