    Basic scrolling questions

A few basic questions about scrolling.......

At first my background was 'tearing' and quite jerky and it looked pretty bad. I upped the frame rate to 100 (which is the same as I use on my monitor) and it's now much smoother. Will this affect the way it looks on other people's screens and does it affect the performance?

I also want my background to be quite large so that I can scroll for some distance at a fairly fast-looking speed, so it needs to about 100 'screens' long. I filled it with a very large quick-backdrop-motif and added a few random objects and it's all working fine. My question is, will this affect performance on weaker computers? Let's say I made it 1000 screens long, would that strain the PC even more, or is MMF2 as good at handling scrolling as it appears to be?

Yes. Tearing will occur if the framerate is lower then the monitor refresh rate. 60 is pretty common among flat panels though.

    Re: Basic scrolling questions

MMF is good at handling scrolling up to a point, though it depends on a number of things like whether you're using layers, where most of the game logic happens (and how much of it there is), and so on. Very large levels aren't impossible, but depending on your situation - if you have a repetitive large backdrop, for example - you may find it more manageable in the end to scroll the objects past the window rather than the other way round.
