Displaying the waveform of an audiosample

I try to display the waveform of an audiosample. Like this:



I tried to achieve it with ONU so far. But this just allows realtime display without any further control or access. Forum search came up with no useful result too.

Has somebody an idea how i could achieve to load an audiosample, then display the waveform of it?

I did something like this, but it only worked for Wav's and was very slow.

I deciphered the wave format and printed the samples using an overlay, probably not the best solution.

But a working one. Wav's would be good enough for me, and i don't really care about speed. Would you mind to share how you did the deciphering?

i wouldn't think it'd be all that slow as long as you didn't sample more than you needed to display at a given horizontal resolution

i mean if you sampled the entire file and only displayed 2% of what you looped through, that would be slow
