Can you have the files already created and add to them? I doubt it but maybe?

    Nope.

However installers can choose the permissions on the files they install, e.g. steam allows any user to write to its program files folder so that anyone can install and update their games through steam without needed to elevate to admin for every little update.

So basically your saying that I can install programs into the program files folder, but I need to create a folder in the Users Documents folder where all saved game data will be stored?
I use windows XP and I am the only user so i have never had a problem with administrator rights nor have I ever heard of this before si I dont know whats the best practices. Im still confused :/

If you are making the program for yourself, using windows XP, you can save the data in any place you want. If you are making a program to run on a maximum amount of computers, you must save the data in the application data folder. It is simple as that.

Thanks. But how do I retrieve the user's documents directory in MMF so I can write my files to that?

Use the file object its for dev and standard, OS object can get the username but is dev only. File object should work. Read my 2nd posting in this thread
