    Hi there,

I've tried running that example that was made (Basic Dialogue.mfa), and I have installed the INI++ and String tokenizer objects as instructed. But the example still won't open.

Is there anything I can do to resolve this problem? I'm interested in all the same things as BobaFonts.

    Cheers.

Gee, you brought up a 2 year old thread. The example was made with an outdated INI++ Extension.

I did think that might be the case. Ah well, there's enough there I suppose for me to sus it out. A few comments always helps! Cheers.

Right, after help from Burfelt, found out this:

To run the example, go into your extensions folder (which is in your Multidemia Fusion 2 <Developer?> folder). Rename INI++15.mfx to INI++.mfx. You can now load and run the example.

Thought I'd post this here for anyone else trying to make conversation trees. Was a big help to me. Hope it helps others.

By the way, Jason Darby is working on a new book about making adventure games and it will have a dialogue object of sorts if I remember correctly. Might be something to check out (the object should be made available whether you buy the book or not from what I recall).

Edit: hmm. I looked at the thread a bit more and it doesn't say anything about a dialogue object specifically. But it may have other things that would be useful. Looks like these are the objects, not exactly sure what they all do:

    1. Text Adventure Map
    2. Text Adventure Markup
    3. Text Adventure Messages
    4. Text Adventure Pages
    5. Text Adventure Words

Yeah, I'm looking forward to that book. Unfortunately for me, the Uni project that I need to build and hand-in is due in about 2 weeks time!

But I've still pre-ordered the book already. Like a dream come true for me!

Progress so far - comments and feedback welcome

Just thought I'd post what I've done so far.

    Dialogue.zip

So here's a sort of rough-around-the-edges version of the dialogue system I'd like to use in a game - something just like Lucasarts/Sierra games amongst others.

Comments and feedback welcome - especially if there's any tricks that I've missed to simplify it (other than removing the various numbers/strings I have for tracking what was going on).

Cheers and thank you to Tree Hugger for the original example file.

By the way, my example uses INI rather than INI++ because I'd like to learn how to do things in MMF which mean I can publish to Flash later on.

TheSynapse resurrected an old thread of mine and I can say he is doing great things. I hope that, sharing solutions, very soon we can have a couple of classic point & click adventure engines.

Yes, and don't forget Jason's book about creating Adventure Games coming out soon. There should be some exciting objects to help us out.
