Splash! floating on water with the PMO help

I'm trying to have my character decend slightly then float back to the surface when jumping into a body of water using the PMO object - thus far i can get the affect on initial entry into the water but once he reaches the surface he continually bobs up and down (and not in a realistic way) does any body have any ideas how i would acheive this sort of thing using the PMO, or should i just make a seperate custom movement for swimming altogether? - i'm kinda hoping there is a way to do this using the PMO though.
after jumping in he only needs to be able to move back and forth across the water no diving or anything like that.

Set the jump strength low and make him continuously jump when he reaches a certain depth, i.e. Top of Water + X pixels. You can also vary up the gravity to make him sink slower. Just make sure you reset everything to normal when your character is back on land.

You can make the character return to the "Y" of the surface every 1 second, when the character overlaps the water
