hmmm, try making an active object, then copy and paste your image onto the active object, then erase the transparency using the method above.

Same effect, it still has a border around it.

You should create your image with a transparent background and save it as a PNG if you want to preserve the transparency in MMF2.

Then load the PNG file using the "open" icon in the image editor. Seriously, try it.
