pausing an app with the gamepad?

I found a post from a few months back with an example on how to pause by pressing a gamepad button using a modal subapp. I tried this method, but the subapp doesn't seem to end by using gamepad input. The post also had a link to an example, but it is a dead link now. Can anyone explain what needs to be done (or provide an example)? I am trying to use button 10 (the start button on a ps2 controller)

Does anyone know if you can end a subapp with a gamepad button press? That is essentially what I am asking in my post above. It doesn't seem to work for me.

In the subapp add a "Fire 1 pressed" condition, and then end the application.
