    overlay redux erases pasted backdrops

    Has anyone else noticed this?
If you paste some backdrops into your frame and then draw on the overlay, the whole background of the frame gets erased.
Does anyone know a workaround? This is bloody annoying as I rely on pasted backdrops to make up my world and now I cant update my minimap which is an overlay.
Im guessing its because it uses the same drawing surface as the pasted backdrops so once I update it, I lose everything else.

Have you tried putting the minimap and overlay in a new layer above the other?

Yes, I set the minimap as transparent and put the active overlay underneath that and it works. But the problem is that once I draw anything onto the Overlay Redux, it erases ALL pasted backdrops present on the frame.

What I meant was, have you tried putting both the minimap object and the overlay object in a new layer?
One layer for all your pasted backdrops and one for the minimap/overlay...

I know thats what you meant. Yes I have, it still erases the backdrops.
You can test for yourself with a simple test engine. Create a 32x32 active and paste it into the background using a loop.

Then draw something on the overlay and watch as the backdrop disapears. it happens whenever the overlay is updated, either automatically through its settings window, or when you update it through events.

Yes it does, this has made me waste several hours trying to find a workaround unsuccessfully.

Overlay is a background object. If a background object needs to be updated MMF has to redraw the entire frame. This means bye bye to everything pasted into the background. I don't think that overlay object does this if it is invisible so you can use the Active Overlay object (I soon have a new version for you that works).
With the active overlay you can display the overlay object as an active object without it messing up your pasted objects.

Re: overlay redux erases pasted backdrops

    Thanks for the reply Andos.
I am sure I tried having it invisible, but will try it again to be sure. I will let you know if it works.
Make sure you let me know when the new Active Overlay is finished!!

EDIT: Andos I tested and it still erases the backdrops even when its not visible. If you can manage to find a workaround can you please send me an example?? I have tried many ways (including loading into the Background Images Object) and they all dont work.

Re: overlay redux erases pasted backdrops

OK the only way I can get it to work is by putting the overlay object onto layer 1, and drawing my frame on layer 2. This means that whenever the overlay is updated, it redraws layer 1 only leaving layer 2 in tact as it doesnt need to be modified.

I didn't really want to add another layer to my game specifically for the overlay though. I will test it further and hopefully it doesn't give me a big FPS hit...

If someone can come up with an alterative way please let me know.
