    Haha, just played this game today for the very first time.
    There really is no efficient way I can think of. I would know of ways to do this in HWA using effects.

    Sorry, no. I think there would be a way, but it's just too complex and would result in very low fps.
    Why do you insist on using the software renderer?

    I actually made a better one which also uses pixels as unit. So the radius is not relative to this. It also has less features.

    Yah the 'hole' pixel shader or just simply using the alpha of a layer and making it transparent around the player- its not at all a complicated effect

    Can you elaborate? Sounds like I don't know of that technique.
