    Background Images - Memory leak?

In my current project I read in the level structure from a external file and then use active picture object to create the level. I've been considering using the background images object instead but just discovered something strange.

I've loaded a tileset and split it into separate slots of the background images object. Everything works greatly but each time I switch image slot the memory usage increases. Anyone else experienced this? What could be the cause...

Here's a test application I made. You'll need overlay redux and background images object.

Update: I noticed that if I'm using the low RAM/high CPU option the memory doesn't build up anymore. However using the option in combination with HWA crashes the application.

the extension is not ported to HWA yet.
It doesnt even work in HWA as far as I know. I tested it with DX8/9 and it doesnt work. The image data structures have changed for HWA as far as I know...
Greyhill will port it once the HWA SDK is available.

Alright thanks for the info. However the memory build up happens in software mode too, unfortunately...

Yeah I suppose I'll do that. I prefer not to bother people by PM but I need to get his attention somehow. :P

I don't mind getting PMs, I don't read that many posts on the forum anyway.

Re: Background Images - Memory leak?

The problem is because of you resampling it. It's not really a problem. The ram builds up because it resamples the image and stores it so it can use it next time without resampling again (quicker, but uses more ram), or you can use that 'low RAM/high CPU' setting, which doesn't store the resamples image and has to recalculate it everytime it draws. Up to you. There's no leak, at some point the ram won't go any higher than it needs to. And don't rely on it with hwa yet
I would try to avoid resampling if i were you.

Re: Background Images - Memory leak?

Thank you very much Greyhill! So would it be a better idea to read in the entire tileset and just change the offset? Thus avoiding the need to resample or recalculate.
