    Pinball movement

I hate to ask, but was anyone else a little disapointed with the pinball movement? I know that Gravity are hard to imitate, but the way the object moves is a tad rediculous!

..or perhaps I'm using it wrong. Is there any way for it to have it roll down slopes like, well, a pinball?

    Re: Pinball movement

The initial Pinball Movement was meant to be a good demonstration of what Custom Movements can do.

You can see some early work, also, by Andrew Mather, as another taster of what is possible.

There is a Movement SDK that will be available to anyone who wants to work with Custom Movements ... and the sky is the limit then.

So, have fun with the first Pinball Movement for now and be certain that there are many possibilities for advanced and improved versions of it, and any other kind of movement you can imagine.

Oh, and I have seen a Beta of an fuller-featured Pinball Movement V2, but I don't know if it will be continued or released. It was very impressive, though.

Keep in mind that creating movements are a bit more involved that creating extensions, so when the all-stars get to them and beat out some winners, we will all be enjoying the results.

    Re: Pinball movement

Has anyone else tried to make a pinball game with the pinball movement? I didn't have much success to be honest.

    Re: Pinball movement

I think that the pinball movement is a great custom movement. It's true, I don't use it much in the game I am working on right now (Kick the Can) after you kick a can, it switches to pinball movement and falls to the ground, it may even knock another Can down on the way!

I am very happy with the pinball movement. I do think it would be pretty hard to make a pinball game with it, but I don't see another movement that would be more suited.

Check out the examples in Chipmunk and Box2D phizix extensions. One of them is a pinball example!

Yes but... the examples are very impressive and all, particularly the platform movement, but I have no idea how to use them. The examples don't explain much and they seem to use a lot of math I don't understand.

    Re: Pinball movement

I remember I was disappointed with this pinball movement too when I looked at it (it was a loooong time ago, already, probably when MMF2 was just out). What's funny is that I remember a french PC gaming paper (PC team maybe ?) was giving klik and Play lessons with sample code and assets, and they had managed to make a decent pinball at the time. It was a strange system, that they didn't really explain, and there were some objects out of the frame you couldn't move or everything would fall to pieces... I was pretty young back then, but I still remember it.

I wish I could find this example back...

    Re: Pinball movement

What Clickteam should improve is the basic functionality. PB Movement shows strange behaviour even if an Active just bounces up/down on a plain surface. Would be even greater to have a solid collision detection like in Ball Movement.

While this would still not allow to make a decent pinball game, the movement would be very useful for many other purposes.
