How to place objects precisely opposite each other

This may sound silly, but when I place two objects in the Frame Editor I find it difficult to tell if they are positioned precisely opposite each other or to tell if the objects are exactly equally distanced from a third object. There is no ruler to help you nudge the things in the right place as far as I can see.
Is there an easy way to place the objects precisely?
