    Dungeon Extension Help

I know Looki didn't write a tutorial or guide on how to use the extension, but I was wondering if anyone else did? Or at least did could help me use it.

For example could anyone tell me how to place an active object randomly in an open area in a dungeon.

I would really like to continue my roguelike, but I can't really make a true roguelike without randomly created dungeons.

    Thanks in advance,
    Oreo

Hi Oreo. If the Dungeon Extension is making you want to vomit, why couldn't use several normal arrays to store you dungeons. Use a counter at random to load your dungeons.

    Just a thought.

That's a good idea, but how would I be able to randomly create the dungeons and also make them playable as well?

    Re: Dungeon Extension Help

What I've seen people do is to have pre-made designs for rooms. Kind of tricky because placing rooms at random also requires that they fit together correctly. So you'd have to have some sort of algorithm that says where a room can be placed next to another one. Otherwise you'd have all sorts of dead ends that will leave the player stuck.

In other words, don't look at it from the viewpoint of creating walls that meander in different directions. Have rooms that fit together like blocks. If you look at games like Diablo, you'll notice a lot of the rooms are always the same, just in different locations with hallways leading in different directions.

No matter what you do, randomly creating a dungeon is going to take a ton of work.

    Re: Dungeon Extension Help

Yeah, and that's the point of the Dungeon object.

I figured out how to randomly place the player in a hallway, all I have to do now figure out how to allow the player to detect the overlay object I'm using to paste the dungeon into as an obstacle of some sort. If I can figure out that, then I'd think I'd be set.

I gotta try that "puzzle piece" dungeon idea sometime too Shawn.

Well I seem to have figured out my problem, thanks to the Surface object.

That would be nice to see a code source mfa for your solutions.

    Re: Dungeon Extension Help

You could've just done loops and pasted actives at the blocks or something

Doesn't the dungeon object come with an example of it?

    Re: Dungeon Extension Help

@Marv Sorry, I don't usually release my source, I feel my work should be for my own eyes.

@RR I don't think that would have worked, unless I just don't know how to paste actives at all the wall points.

No the Dungeon object didn't come with the Surface object.

I meant if it came with an example of pasting. You just need to multiply by grid size, is all.
