    Newgrounds count vs. mochi count

Ok, so I uploaded Process of Illumination to Newgrounds. Newgrounds is showing 550 impressions.

    Mochi is showing 300 impressions.

    I don't get it.

    Am i missing something?

Re: Newgrounds count vs. mochi count

I've seen a difference in the Newgrounds view count and the Mochi impressions count as well (with the Newgrounds one always higher) - I imagine that Mochi takes some time to update, or perhaps not every page view on Newgrounds resulted in a load of the actual SWF.

Yeah, well, impressions at Mochi refers to the advertisement impression. Is Newgrounds referring to something else when it counts "impressions"?

In either case, I hope this doesn't indicate that Mochi is being diabolical. The good news is, I can use a database of my own and a quick phone home via the Get Object will tell me if I'm getting "cheated". Impressions+Skips should agree with the counter I'm about to set up.

It's normal that these numbers don't match.

Newgrounds will probably register each click. So if someone clicks your game and immediately goes back to previous page or clicks another link, it will count as one view for your game. But that kind of a view is not counted as an ad impression because no ads have been shown in that short time.

Another thing to consider is the use of ad-blockers.

Re: Newgrounds count vs. mochi count

250 impressions difference seems like a lot for it to be ad blockers and clicking back off a game. Emm...

Re: Newgrounds count vs. mochi count

Before the ad has finished showing, it takes quite a lot of time. Like 7 seconds or so? People will click many many times in 7 seconds. If the ad impression is registered each time the ad had finished, I don't think this discrepancy is nothing but normal.

Believe me, this audience (Newgrounds) is not exactly waiting to see YOUR game, they will very easily quit it and simply click some other piece of content. If Newgrounds would provide more thorough stats, I bet e.g. the average game session length in most cases would be ridiculously short, measured in tens of seconds, and much under the average between all hosts. This difference in impressions vs. views is an indication of that.

Re: Newgrounds count vs. mochi count

I'm still very glad I uploaded 2 games to Newgrounds. My income went way up, at least so far.
