It depends on your goals. As a beginner, judging by the beginner creations I've seen, you won't be making quality flash games. If you want flash games to succeed, you need to know a bit about MMF2 and how to write decent code.

The Flash Exporter has some differences, some features that don't work the same as in a standalone application. If you have messy code, you'll never be able to isolate the problem as quickly.

Of course, you could still get the Flash Exporter, I'd recommend it to anyone with MMF2, it's great to get your work out into the public. But if you are still a beginner, you won't have as much content to be putting out into the public.

Stick to learning the basics and knowing how to make decent games. So it really depends on if you want to hold onto the exporter while you learn, or if you want to wait until you can use it effectively.

Ignoring the money, I'd say get it, you could play around and have it handy, but I'd urge you not to upload your newbie stuff for everyone to play. Some things are not meant for the public

Hi Willow. I think it is a good idea to put your games up and ask for constructive thoughts and how they might be improved.

I agree with you you about "how else you can improve". Another thing is private beta, just pass the games to a few people first, asking first of course.

Oh also, I wasn't saying anything about your work, I don't think I've seen your work, I'm just assuming you are a newbie since you said it yourself.

There's nothing wrong with showing off examples in the forums here and making games and putting them on GB for all of us to play, I am just saying that the people outside of CT are not as friendly.

Upload a newbie game to NewGrounds, don't expect ANY constructive criticism hahaha
Here at least we can help you do better, and learn.

I didn't mean to say "DONT SHOW OFF YOUR WORK YOU ARE AWFUL WE DONT WANT TO SEE IT". I just think that you shouldn't take advantage of Flash's features and ability with MMF2 until you are ready.

    Re: swf beginner question

Assuming your priority is to develop Flash games, I see an advantage in using the Flash kit right from the start: simplicity!

By selecting SWF as build type you massively reduce the available objects, allowing to focus on the most basic ones. This way you won't waste time on some cool extensions or functions only to find that you can't use them for Flash apps after switching to SWF builds later.

Just ignore the more specific objects like the Mochi-stuff at the beginning to keep things simple.
