Does the color mode effect performance in Java?

This is probably a silly question, but does the color mode effect the performance in java? (ie 256 v 32768)

Also, I create my images in photoshop and bring them in as .png files. Some of the images have semitransparent areas, anti-aliased edges, etc. Does this also effect the performance?
