Patches without CD

Why do we still need the CD-ROM to install patches?

I removed the DVD drive from my laptop and replaced it with a second hard drive a few months ago. So now that I want to update MMF, I can't. :\

Next time perhaps put a CD image on the hard drive, then its always handy if you need it.

So maybe go borrow someone elses computer with a CD drive and copy it to a flash drive then move it to your laptop.

Thanks Jeff, I used a workaround. I suppose the purpose of my post is more to voice my objection to that particular method of copy protection, as it really only hampers legitimate users.

To make the patches as small as possible it compares against the stock files so it has more to do about that and less to do about pirates.

But I do understand its annoying if you didn't put the CD on your hard drive -- I am terrible at losing CDs.

Perhaps you could make patches against both the previous version and against the original CD (as separate downloads?). That way it would be possible to patch to each new version without the CD, but bigger changes would need it.

I don't know how complex/time consuming it is to make the patches though.
