    Problem with ladders

Hi, completely new to this program, have only just started using it about a month ago but I'm having problems with ladders at the moment. I set them up like this

the only problem is, when you try to climb them it doesn't work, but if the character walks about another 15-20 pixels over to the right and then presses up you start to climb up mid air. Is there any easy way of fixing this?

    Thanks

I just did a test, apparently ladder climbing is done from the hot-spot of your character. Move the hotspot in the picture editor, preferably to the bottom-middle.

I have pretty much completely deferred to using the Platform Movement object. The ladder use there works well.

Otherwise... in theory, standard platform keying should work.

That particular piece of advice applies to developing sprites in general, unless you are creating a spaceship. But if it's a guy who walks on platforms, placing the hot spot at the middle of his or her feet is standard.
I wouldn't say standard... I use hidden collision objects for movement and the character is just an image that follows the hidden collider... so there's really no need to adjust hotspots at all in that situation.

I've learned that it's generally not a good idea to detect collisions or do movement using the actual character sprite. At least, not when you're talking about advanced movements and collisions.

Thanks for helping out guys, I hadn't got my hot spots/action points set up... hadn't really even looked at them in any detail yet!
