I think a Mac Mini is on the cheaper side.

You might be able to pick up a Mini or Laptop second hand on the cheap (though just make sure its an Intel based machine and can run Snow Leopard)

    Re: apple advice

I have a Mac Mini. It's a really great system - my first mac. I only really use it for iPhone game dev, and when I'm not doing that I can also use it to watch movies/tv shows on by connecting to my tv through HDMI. So for me, it doubles as a small media PC.

But the cheapest option would be to get the cheapest second hand mac you can find on eBay, just as long as it runs Snow Leopard (or is capable of running Snow Leopard).

I agree with netninja about the MacMini.
So, what you finally bought, Andy?

    Re: apple advice

hehe - good choice of name Andy.

I was almost ready to buy a Mac Mini and plug in to my spare HDMI TV and manage on a PC USB keyboard and mouse, but then the missus allowed me to spend a little bit more for a MacBook on the proviso that she'd get to use it too. The Apple guy also wanted me to spend a fortune on extras (I think the more you spend the more you love Apple and the more Apple love you ) but unfortunately he couldn't persuade the boss ('the missus'). Suffice to say, I shall not be spending any more money for a long time.

    Re: apple advice

It took me a while to love my apple, and my apple to love me, after a few arguments about where my right mouse button went, a few arguments about running windows... we now have a strong relationship..

Yeah, it does take a while, and it does end up costing a lot of money
