    Strange file type .6 ???

I have been working on an application for some time now, and have been saving as different filenames as i went along, like:
    "ApplicationV1.0", "ApplicationV1.1", "ApplicationV1.2", etc
    ...
I am currently at version "5.5" and am trying to save as "5.6", but when i try to save the application now it doesnt become a regular ".mfa" file, but a ".6" which i dont know what is, i dont know whats going on.
    ...
I just discovered this, and i have tried to google the filetype but havent found any referance to a filetype named ".6"
    ...
My gut feeling tells me this has something to do with the filename ( because im trying to save as "version 5.6" ), but i can tbe sure.
Should i be worried? Can anyone help me, whats going on?

Re: Strange file type .6 ???

It can happen if you accidentally enable the "All Files (*.*)" option in the save dialog and save your file. Otherwise it shouldn't matter, or perhaps if your system have .6 files associated to something.

Or, perhaps you accidentally saved it with the "All Files (*.*)" option creating a .6 file, then double clicked it when you saw it had the wrong name, and selected a program to open it with (MMF2?), and thus creating the association needed to make anything ending with .6 create a .6 file instead of the default file format?

    I'm just randomly speculating though...

I think he's wondering what's going on, more than asking how to save the file with the right file extension though.

Re: Strange file type .6 ???

Thanks for your input guys, but i think i understand that its just a conflict with the ".6"( version number ) part of the file name when i save it. What i do is just go on saving as "56" "57" instead of "5.6" "5.7" i feel totally fine about doing it that way, and it works

I believed that the future of my work was threatened because of a bug or something, but dont think thats the case

Well, check HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT in the registry for a .6 filetype. If there is one, that's the explanation, though it doesn't explain why it was added there in the first place.

    Run -> regedit

    Etc.
It's probably under Local Machine, if I'm not mistaken

Re: Strange file type .6 ???

Because it says 6_auto_file, you (or someone else using your system) must at some point have created the file association by double clicking a .6 file and selecting a program to open it with.
