How to make Megaman screen transitions?

Anyone know a relatively easy way to do that scroll to each new section of screen like what happens in Megaman?

I guess you could have a separate active that always stays centered the player, unless it's in a certain zone (specified by x position). have the camera always follow this object.
When the object is in the 'transition zone', it stops moving untill the player moves far enough into the 'transition zone', then start moving the camera object again.

Of course, mega man also pauses the action for a moment while shifting over to the new screen, so you'd have to account for that too.
