text input trim

I have been trying to set up a solid password entry box. Working with RTF object. I have a working solution but watching testers it always feels a bit wobbly.

1. How to trim spaces - left and right?

2. How to block entry-key input to string?
I have used a button to test input but the entry key is more common.

Any alternatives to RTF.?

Is there an equivalent to 'Lower' for strings?
'trim' - 'slice' - ?

Is there are way to loop/search the string input prior to testing to remove space?

#2 I resolved by using an edit object - deselect multiline

#1 is still rattling. I generally would like to know how to find/replace within a string.
