Re: Removing alpha channels EXTREMELY time consuming

Thanks for all your suggestions and help. I tried them all. My brother then came up with a way using GIMP. I'm a Photoshop user and never thought of using GIMP. Not the quickest way, though it does get the job done.

    Here's how I did it,

    1) Open a PNG with a transparent background

    2) Select wand and change the settings (see image below)

    3) Select the transparent parts of your image and delete

    4) With the transparent spaces still selected, fill them in with your choice of background color

    5) Save as BMP

I hope this is of help to others wanting the same thing.

    life2searching here's the info.

In my case it seems to be more about how many objects. I'm using about 90 objects at around 70x110 pixels and a game resolution of 320x480.

I removed the alphas and it slightly sped things up. What got things moving even more was changing the image compression to color reduction on individual objects. This suits me but have set compression to default with certain objects that had an undesirable effect on the colors.

When I color reduced the entire game things ran very smoothly, even with alpha layers. The effects on the colors make this option unsuitable for me though.

Re: Removing alpha channels EXTREMELY time consuming

When I tried the suggested methods with photoshop it either ate to much into the picture or left some of the outlining effect. The way I did it deletes only pixels that are semi or fully transparent.

Am I doing something wrong? I'd love to an automated photoshop action.
