    Requesting assistance with file associations...

    Hey, folks!

A few months ago LB and Jaffob were awesome enough to help me get started with being able to set up file associations with the Power System object, then to open a file from Windows Explorer.

I'm still having an issue with file associations, though. I have been able to successfully create file associations, but when I double-click on a file from Windows Explorer, Windows still queries me which program I want to use to open the file. It seems I cannot successfully make my MMF2 application the default application to open a file of a specified file extension. (Once my MMF2 application is selected to open the file, the Command Line functionality works properly to import the file into the application.)

Whenever I use the Power System object's "Set Default Association" action, my MMF2 application crashes at run-time start-up. (I noticed that there is no documentation regarding this specific action, so I wonder if the action was incomplete?)

How can I properly set up to make my MMF2 application the default application to open a file of a specified file extension?

As always, thank you very much for your assistance!

    Most graciously...

I've just tested and there is no crash for me, though it has no effect. :\ This may have been a bug if I recall but it's difficult to remember as I used the feature so long ago...

I recall there being some bug related to having spaces in the association name (LB, you found it I think). I believe I began to fix it, but for some reason the extension started not appearing in MMF, and I sort of gave up after that.

Aha, and I have just found a solution!

Instead of using regular spaces you get with the space bar, use the Alt+255 (numpad) space, which is different from a regular space. I just tested and it works correctly in MMF2/PSO/Windows.

It'll be fixed in the OS Control Object.

Re: Requesting assistance with file associations...

Hey, guys! As usual, it's LB and Jaffob working on this issue!

I'm afraid I'm confused (which doesn't take much)... Where exactly would I use a Number Pad Space? In the "Set as Default Association" action? You mean when I'm specifying the association name?

I'll give that a try... Maybe it will stop the crashing. I'm convinced that for whatever reason the crashing is because of this one action...

As usual, you guys are awesome! Thanks again for all your help!

PS: And now Jaffob has me wondering what the OS Control object is! Knowing how cool his objects are, I'm salivating!

You use the special space anywhere you would use a space in an association name anywhere, ever.
