Background image not showing up (all black)

I exported one of my games to an xcode project so I could simulate it on the Mac. Everything worked fine with the exception of my games background.

Originally I used a backdrop but rather than a background showing, the background was just a solid black colour. I made an active object as a background instead and tested this but it's still showing a black background rather than my image.

I really can't think of why it's doing this. I turned transparency off, there isn't any ink effects taking place on the image and I am using an imported .jpeg image for the background. Any more reasons or solutions?

    How big is the image?
iOS devices have a sharp limit to how big images can be.
It might be a good idea to split up your extremely large images into smaller ones (if they are over 1024x1024 big)
