need advice on a few things

I know I been registered here long time! but over a year plus has been designing the game!!
which is now almost ready to start too program!!

But I like to make a quick game now!!
the idea is a screen 320,240. and have full size blocks 32 mm wide coming down and across!- I was going to use animation screens to make the gaps in each one, But I was wondering would it be better to make the block ( say 32,32/32,32) and have them stacked ontop of ech one to make the bottom to top screen block! and then miss ones I need for gaps!
Now what would be the fastest way! use the least processor and also if did it second way! how would be the best way to do it!!
as I was just going to move the block say (speed, direction, and animation number ?) then the empty space would be the non collision spot!
Can any1 give me any ideas! love to do a quick game, before I start the programming on the big game!!

PS one other thing! would like a top score on line! any links to good pages to explain this!!

THANKS in Advance !! Many Thanks
pps the big game I've designed- Id like to write a review of it! best place to do it ????? as it has mulitiple worlds, where things you do there effect things on other galaxy's etc..
So any advice woulsd be most welcome

    Hey CoxyofNewp,

First, I think it's great that you want to do a small game before you get to work on your dream game. Some people try to do a massive game right out of the starting gate, and of course they fail and get burned out and never want to do another game again.

You might actually want to consider making a few small games before you try to tackle your "massive" one. You'll have more experience and you'll be able to better make it match your creative vision. I probably made dozens of small, kinda crappy games before I tackled anything that could even remotely be considered massive.

It's unclear to me what you're asking for help with in your blocks game. Perhaps you could draw a picture or do a mockup to show what it is you want?

As for how to design your maps, there is no standard "better" way of doing it. It depends on the game itself. Most games tend to fare pretty well when you make your own editor/level loader, but this takes a lot of effort and may not be the best solution for all games. Sometimes it's just nicer to use the built in frame editor.

And I wouldn't worry so much about memory and performance, you'd have to conjure up something horribly inefficient to bring a modern computer to its knees. If you do something that slows down the game, then you can take steps to fix it.

There used to be a really great online tutorial on how to do online high scores using MooClick and PHP, but it seems to have 404'd. Does anyone still have it??
