Post Problem with the DirectShow object

I am trying to make a simple app that plays DVDs... and it works, except for the sound. Play/pause works, creating/destroying windows works, changing chapters works, etc. However, the object mutes itself (or sets volume to 0, can't tell). I know this because volume change/unmute actions do not work. So, I paused the app using the debugger and set the volume level to 1000; the very next frame set it back to 0. I have tried everything I know to do. Is there a simple solution to this problem? or a more modern, updated version of this object?

Ok, so I have looked into this a lot and I think I have narrowed down the problem. Sound and volume works fine for all files (the 'General' section under the actions list), however, it will not play sound for DVDs. I tried it on another PC with the same results. So I guess my question is can the Direct Show object even play DVDs (with sound supported) or am I wasting my time?

It can play anything that Windows Media Player can do, for the most part. Does playing a DVD with sound work in Windows Media Player?
Working as fast as I can on Fusion 3

Yes, I tried it with the same DVD I was testing with (which works fine in the DVD player too, so it is not the DVD). Windows Media Player had no problems with sound. I cannot think of what the problem could be. I set the volume to maximum and created an 'always' event to track the volume with Global Value A and it shows up as 1000, maximum.

The action list says that it creates a DVD window, would it be possible to use the MCI object to control sound?
