    Slowdown question.

    Hey guys, another question.

I know that having many active objects in the frame at once will cause a slowdown... how about background objects? My current project is an open environment and it seems to be slowing down even with minimal actives in the frame. Is it possible that the slowdown is caused by all the background objects and that I should split up my one huge level to multiple frames?

    Thanks a lot!

Definitely possible. Read the topic "some memory questions."

Hahaha, thanks for the lead . I read it all and I guess there's a lot of things I can try to speed it up.
Your game looks awesome by the way, jregork! My big project uses a similar retro aesthetic.

Yeah, it's all about collision detection, the size and number of objects, etc. If you learn to economise with your objects properly you can get most stuff running pretty well!

Thanks a lot guys . So far so good, the problems seem to be vanishing! Although, I still think I will have to separate my metroidvania world into multiple frames to bring it 100% up to speed. All those tips worked btw! Especially "collision with box"

Yeah I can imagine a free-roaming Metroid-type thing could cause issues, but I doubt splitting it up into frames will harm the experience much.

The metroids were clever. Those doors that took forever to open were actually loading screens. And shooting them repeatedly did not speed them up

Hahaha, yeah, I find myself using similar methods :P. I never had to worry about this stuff when it was running on PC, but I guess it always helps to be more efficient with coding and to always keep memory and stuff in mind. Thanks for the help guys
