What is the best way to run an MMF app on Ubuntu linux? Java, Wine, Anaconda?

Personally I think it's depends on what type of application/game you're thinking of building. I use Ubuntu 12.10 full time for my everyday needs, including using MMF2 via wine.

Wine works really well with MMF2 itself and many Windows apps I made out of it... for most extensions anyway... (certain Windows-specific ones might not work, like the Console object and ActiveX object)
Java would equally do well, since it should work the same on your Windows PC and Ubuntu PC, but it's about half the speed and there isn't too many extensions to make something "amazing" without too many bug crashes/freezes like I've had.
Anaconda is a really good concept, but I personally have had compilation issues, but when it works, it does well in Ubuntu.

In my opinion, there isn't a "best" way, it's really what's best for you... a bit of testing on each type should help you determine what's best for your Linux users.

If there was a native Linux exporter, that would be amazing!

If it was me, I'd go with Wine, and at the same time do extensive testing on Ubuntu to make sure it works flawlessly with Wine.

Doesn't the Anaconda runtime work in Linux?

Programs made with Anaconda works in Linux, but I personally have trouble compiling the apps (this is both on my Ubuntu/Windows PC -- might be a problem with Python on my system) which is why I don't use Anaconda.

Just as a side note for droberson, this extension list is what is supported by Anacanda, whereas MMF2 would display all the extensions (unlike other runtimes like Java which hides unsupported extensions)

I have used Wine and MMF did run fine in it. It would be nice if MMF could provide a native Ubuntu/Linux application to be able to get maximum speed.

I believe a Linux port is planned for MMF3 "in James' free time". MMF2 is far too dependent on the Windows API to ever be ported in an timely time frame...
Working as fast as I can on Fusion 3

I know. I look forward to MMF3 but I understand it is a long ways off.

James has mentioned it a few times on the forums, I think it's good news for all Linux fans!
