I noticed that filtering is always on for rotated objects as well. Will this update also allow unfiltered rotations?

When you set the angle or scale you can set a quality flag. If one of the flags (or both) are set to 1 it will use smooth linear filtering. Otherwise it will use nearest neighbour (pixely).

This has been implemented in the next release. It shouldn't be long now
