    Question Text Boxes?

Hello. I am in the process of making a game and it is quite narrative heavy. To display that up to this point I portrayed dialogue in computer pop-up windows however this obviously disallows the game to be ported over to other mediums. A lot of the default text objects I've found to be not very malleable and versatile enough to be text boxes. Seeing as how the dialogue is extremely integral, I was wondering If anyone knows a way to create in-game text boxes or point me towards a tutorial for that? Or perhaps there is an object that does all of this? Thank you.

There's a dialogue tutorial on the Tutorials page (have a look on the sidebar on the right when viewing a forum list). I think that it'll either use the Speech Bubble object or the Text Blitter.

What format is your game going to be for?

Also I found the Text Blitter object to be extremely useful. However. Is there anyway for the text to appear slowly on the screen? Like old-school RPGs?

I wish for the text to appear in this fashion when the characters speak.

Make the string something like this.

Left$( "blah blah", Alterable Value A( "Text Blitter Object" ) )

Then add 1 to the value A of the text blitter as the text is displayed. Make sure each time a message is displayed the text blitter's value A is always set to 0 at the start of the message being displayed.

As far as I know, the Text Blitter is not supported by the various exporters. Flash, IOS ect.

Here's a text blitting example I made that uses no extensions: http://www.whenthereisnoroominhellth...itversion2.mfa
