    Question Customising Controls

    Hey, so I know how to change the default keys. But what is the easiest way to allow a player to input custom keys? Is there a .mfa that I can use or will I need to install a Control X extension. (For some reason, the exe installers for batch installing custom mfx files don't work. Also of interest is using a custom platform engine (e.g. one that allows continued horizontal movement after hitting the characters head among other things. I tried making an online score system, but I came to a roadblock with one of the extensions. Any help on any of these problems would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

    What happens when you try to use one of the bonus pack EXEs? It could indicate a problem with your installation.

    Usually I'd use Control X to customize controls, but I can answer the platform movement one - there's a basic custom platform tutorial on the Tutorials page, on the sidebar to the right when you're looking at the top level of the forums.

    Hi ElectricMaster. There is an open source example of the player customizing controls on my website.

    Thanks guys for the welcome, and thanks Marv. I've bookmarked that site as it looks like an excellent MMF2 resource. I assume you meant "Control X Example" on page 19 of your website, Marv?
    The only problem is I don't have the Control X.mfx plugin. can you upload it individually somewhere so I can use it? BTW: My game I'm working on is here: http://www.mediafire.com/?of8znbalvlkn6k8. (I sent the mfa file so you can take a look it.)

    Current Controls:

    arrows control direction
    shift = jump
    ctrl = run
    space = shoot

    I went with the original mmf2 platform engine out of simplicity but I guess I could always import an engine at a later stage, but I feel it's mostly unnecessary. My other question question is: When jumping left and shooting, the player will often still shoot right and I'm having a hard time getting the robot to shoot left... I've tweaked a lot of options and tried some weird things but still no dice. I've also wondered about getting an online score system working and wondering if you had any experience with this? I have a website capable of MySQL but I'm still confused how to make it work... Well that's it for now. Thanks for the massive help you've already given! I really love this community!

    Yes, the one on page 19. There is a tutorial on the Online High Score on the forum home page. Just click on Tutorials in the right side pane.

    We can't give out extensions that are parts of the bonus packs as individual MFX files - if you can't install the bonus packs, try contacting Clickteam directly with the form at http://www.clickteam.com/website/usa/contact.html . They should be able to help.

    In the mean time, is there a way around this without using the "control x" extension?

    I've finally got the control x extension to load, and even set the controls for up, down, left and right. Question is, how can I change the jump (default is shift/fire1) dash (default is control) and shoot (default is space/fire2)?

    Just go to Player > Set fire 1/Set fire 2/etc. in the actions menu.
