Strange app behavior -- crash on exit?

I made my first iPad app today! Unfortunately, it seems to crash when I push the Home button. Has anyone else encountered this problem? What am I doing wrong?

Here's what happens:

1. I build the app using Xcode and it launches on the iPad.

2. The app is a blank frame with an iOS button that reads "Tap". Tapping the button displays a text message: "Hello world". (So far so good.)

3. When I try to exit the app by pressing the Home button, the screen goes black.

4. When I double tap Home to delete the app from memory the screen stays black, but there is a different black area where the apps in memory normally appear.

5. If I turn off the iPad and immediately back on, everything looks fine again. (I'm not powering down, just pushing the ON/OFF button.)

6. I can delete the app out of memory at that point, but subsequent attempts to run the app get stuck on the Multimedia Fusion 2 loading screen.

NOTE: I unplugged the cable connecting my iPad and my Mac and the problem seems to have gone away. Is this a known problem?

I've had unusual behaviour when quitting/resuming the game on the iPhone 4 when running from XCode as well - it doesn't seem to be anything to worry about. When run from the device, all seems fine.
