One thing I wonder is how to do the fall speed increase like when you are falling? With my pmo object when my character falls, he does it in a quite slow speed that is stable no matter how far you fall.

You can increase the speed of the fall by every so many milliseconds add 1 to speed when character is facing down direction.

If he isn't using a tall frame with a quick backdrop, only thing I could think of is to use a shader possibly to adjust the color of a background layer. Or do something ridiculous like scroll a background active. I don't think the shader method would transition smoothly like that unless you had one designed specifically to do that. Just changing the additive color or what have you wouldn't really work that great or smooth.

Edit: Nevermind, it's a Flash game, can't be shaders. I'm convinced it's just a tall frame with a quick backdrop.

To me it doesn't seem like it's just changing the background color though. It looks more like a smooth gradient that scrolls up as you move higher. I wasn't knocking it for being a Flash game, just that you can't use hardware shaders in Flash so my shader example wouldn't work.

We are just brain storming here about the game. How it was done and so forth.
