If your going to do advanced things like being able to 'stand ontop' of ladder objects ( wich is what i think N64Mario is trying to do ), or if you want to have fixed X possition ladder climbing, or if you want to have moving ladders, or any othe advanced ladder operations, Actives are the way to go.
If you just want a Static Climbable Area, Backdrop Ladders are fine.

The main difference between the two ( Actie VS Backdrop ) in this case is that it is not possible to retrieve any kind of coordinate data from an Backdrop Object, wich is very limiting if you want something more than a Static Climbable Area.
By using backdrop Ladders its hard or maybe impossible for MMF2 to get the Players possition relative to the Backdrop Ladder.

Moving ladders? I didn't think that was possible. o_O
How would you move the player's current position with the ladder moving? Similar to how moving platforms are done?

But yea, I didn't really need to know not to use backdrop style ladders. That was an obvious given to make ladders as active objects.

Well then make them active objects, but in my case where I don't need moving ladders, I'll stick with the simplicity of using backdrop objects even though I'm using the Platform Movement Object because what I want to do with them works.
