best way of comparing values and testing overlapping objects?

Have different animations for checking collisions than for displaying on the frame, perhaps? What do you want to do?

not that because then there would be instances of the same object overlapping itself and there doesn't seem to be a good way of handling that and because of what i am doing i absolutely need to compare some values with collisions.
