    masking and transparency

    Hi all,

I want to make an in-game menu that is semi-transparent except for the text and slider bars. The slider bars have to be smooth and for this I can either use a counter or active (with Xscale = Xsale +/- 0.01). The edges on the bars must be rounded. Is there any way of having a mask that ONLY works for a particular object?

Currently when I set the menu background to transparent the bar mask is visible. When I set the bar mask opacity the bar counter itself becomes visible.

Oh and of course Interface Bar Object would be perfect for this but unfortunately the game is for flash/iOS so I have to use another method.

    Any help much appreciated!

I think, if you make your slider additive blend and make the mask subtractive (and set it on top) ... I hope you'll end up with the effect you want but I haven't tried it.

I thought it was going to work until I set the background transparency. Still no dice.

Surely this has been done? Does nobody want nice rounded counters??

If you set the background blend coeff to 0 it's all good, but anything else reveals the mask. Also it would be great to keep the bar itself on the 'screen' shader. If you don't have this shader it's in the Photoshop shader pack somewhere around here...

    Cheers!

Sorry, having trouble opening it. Do you know where you got hold of Screen.fx effect?

Nope, this shader pack didn't work. I'll look for pack 1.

Just wondering, can't you just make a png object with a built in alpha for the menu bar? Why do you need to use masks?

*I'm feeling your pain! It doesn't matter what combination I try, I just can't get it to subtract. I imagine you want to be able to move the mask around, otherwise I'd just cut a bit out of the background.

    Any ideas? Lol!
