    AnD4D's game in progress

    Hey,

I see myself asking a lot of questions coming up, so thought I'd just open up a new thread dedicated to a game I'm making.

First off, I should say that it's being designed for iOS, so please let me know if I'm doing smething that simply won't work (layers, effects, etc).

Please find my current development attached:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/u2vpgf4p9u...InProgress.mfa

I'll try to keep the link maintained, so people can see the update as it goes along. Maybe there are thing I'm making which may help some people... and others may show bits that I need to improve on.

At the moment, I'll separate the problems I'm having with the problems I forsee.

    HAVING

I'm trying to build the level so it works on layers. The characters should be able to walk in front of certain objects and behind others. For some reason it works sometimes but not others. The thing is, the objects are all duplicates of each other. It doesn't make sense. If they were clones I might expect a problem, but they are all direct copies! Please have a look at the layout section of the program. This is my 4th or 5th way of trying this, and it doesn't seem to be working.

    FORSEE

The problem I can forsee is related to the path finding. Eventually I want to have multiple enemies all actively searching for the character, each with their own path. When I use the 'set start' and 'find path' commands, what will enable me to choose which path belongs to which enemy. I do not want some characters walking through walls, etc.

At the moment, the character graphics are placeholders. I'm currently in the process of building the level, so please excuse the graphics.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Can anyone help with the above? Is it not possible with MMF2, or might I be using the wrong extensions?

AnD4D,.you don't have any layers in the game. What are trying to put into layers? What objects and so forth?

I read somewhere that ios isn't compatible with layers... Is this right? Can I add layers in the layout screen or do I do this from within the event editor?I tried setting layers within the editor before, and it didn't work.

I have no idea about ISO. The best thing is to ask on the ISO forum about that. But with layers, you first need to bring up the Layers tool bar (View, Toolbars, Layers Toolbar) and add them there. After that you need to place your objects in each layer you want to be first, second, third and so on. You will also need to set their X coefficient and Y coefficient for how you want the scrolling speed to be on each layer. Or no scrolling on some layers. On Marv's site he has an example of this. Go to MMF Examples M-N and go down to- Multiple Layer Paralax Example.

Layers... hmm, not the most user-friendly Is there a way to shift all the items on the layer across in one big batch? I thought if I moved one object to a layer, each duplicate would follow, but it's one by one... and that's going to take a while. Luckily I found out about layers before I'd finished building it.

Just selecting them all and moving them seems to work for me. Otherwise you can move them at runtime as well.
