Looking for a grid/array object to overlay screen

The object I'm looking for probably doesn't exist, but here's what I'm looking for:

1. I'll start with a bitmapped map image.

2. Next, I want to overlay the map with an invisible grid. (Maybe 25x25?)

3. I'd then like to specify one or more values for each grid cell, based on the map terrain.

Does anything like that exist? If not, what objects should I use to create my own editor? Any suggestions?

That's what arrays are for. Set the array dimensions to that of your world and then you can set values for each cell.
