Can you use transparency in Flash

Can I use transparency in Flash? What I mean is if I set the display options of an object to have "Effect" "Semi-transparent" with a Blend Coefficient of 20%, will it look right in a Flash game?

That kind of transparency works just fine. Some other ink effects, however... Not so much.

I think that is accurate, but I know another way to do it. Need an example?

Well that is good news because I have waterfalls that I want to be semi-transparent and it looks really cool with this effect. Not to much,.only 20%.

Ok, I have two ways, but I'll just show you the more reasonable one, using the surface object. The one I will not show you is not a very good way of doing it, involving a huge active object. EDIT: Sorry! The example doesn't quite work right. But I think it gets the point across.

Another thing related to transparency. Does it save performence to uncheck the Transparent checkbox in a objects property?
