Height Map Limit in Mode 7ex?

When I create a height map I always found that it appeared to only go so high, is this a limit or am I doing something wrong? What I do to create a height map is, I stick it in a program that turns a picture (The playing field) into a height map and tada! It's done! But all of them only go so high...

I'm pretty sure 30,000 is the max.

The frame can be a max height and width of 30000 pixels, unless I misunderstood you.

No, I mean the actual height in the height map, like a mountain shouldn't be the size of a hill, it should be the size of a mountain in Mode 7ex

Take a picture of a hill from overhead with light shining directly from the camera, convert to greyscale and you have a heightmap. Basically, the whiter a pixel is, the higher the terrain is. It's greyscale because height only comes in 1D

Oh... Well that makes sense! So if there's a perfectly white pixel: How high would the pixel reach in Mode 7Ex?

I would assume the maximum of a byte. That's the maximum of an unsigned char. Those who read my C++ blog tutorial would know how much that is.
